Maths week 2015
The 10th annual Maths Week Ireland will take place this year from the 10th-18th October. Maths Week is the biggest festival of its kind in the world and that's thanks to the dedicated work of schools, teachers and pupils and support from Science Foundation Ireland Discover Department of Education and Skills, Department of Education NI, , ESB, Xilinx and CRH.
Maths Week celebrates a positive image of maths all over the island of Ireland. In 2014 over 205,000 students and their teachers participated in Maths Week Ireland activities with more taking part in the community bringing the total engagement to over 250,000. Let's make the 10th anniversary of Maths Week even bigger.
We know that most schools do celebrate Maths Week, so we are inviting all teachers on the island to register this activity. Registration automatically enters the teacher into a draw for one of our fantastic prizes.
Any school-run activity, no matter how big or small is worth submitting to the website or you can just let us know you're taking part. Put your school on the map at www.mathsweek.ie.
You can locate your school on our interactive map and even submit photographs to help make the Maths Week website come alive during the festival.
Maths Week Ireland posters will shortly be arriving in your school. Please display them to show your school celebrates maths. You can to use them as teaching resources or maths conversation starters with your students.
At Maths Week Ireland we are focused on the idea of "Maths for All," and we have lots of ideas to engage all pupils. Why not run a SNAP Maths Fair which is a non-competitive way to get a whole class excited about maths? Or perhaps try some of our online activities? Why not come along to one of our large scale and entertaining events taking place around the island during the week?
There are a wide range of activity suggestions on the website, for classes of all ability levels and sizes, so please register and take part at www.mathsweek.ie.
Discounted workshops will take place for students during Maths Week at CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory in Cork. Their Education Officer, Frances, is also available to travel to Cork schools for a 1 hour long workshop. Call 021 4326120 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
